Hendrix (HW+ Adoption Fee Main Campus) Shar Pei Adult Male in Louisville, Kentucky

My story
Looking for a lovable lug of a dog? Look no further than Hendrix! This four-year-old, 42-pound pooch is equal parts dorky and sweet. Hendrix came to the Kentucky Humane Society from an overcrowded shelter. He appears to be a Staffordshire Terrier/Shar Pei mix and loves nothing more than snorting around outside and exploring the world around him! This guy has a beautiful mind that needs to be challenged.

Hendrix loves finding treasures and chewing on them.

He needs things like food puzzles, kongs, and bone to keep his mouth busy and out of trouble.

We discovered this curious fellow has heartworms, which are not contagious to other animals or humans. They do require a monthly dose of medicine that KHS will provide to Hendrix's adopters free of charge until he tests negative. He just needs a low energy lifestyle and lots of love until then! Hendrix has not been around children, but he has proven to be too much for feline and small animal friends. We have introduced Hendrix to other dogs at the shelter and found he enjoys low energy, non-playful companions. We still want potential families to bring their pup in for a meet and greet with Hendrix - as long as the resident dog is not overly playful or rambunctious. He is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his shots. Due to his heartworm status, his family must live in the counties listed below. Hendrix cannot go home with cats or small animals and is meet and greet required.Transfer:I came to the Kentucky Humane Society from another shelter. The staff are still learning all about me. I miss being in a home and have a lot of love to give.Heartworm Positive:This dog has been diagnosed as heartworm positive (HW+) and is undergoing treatment. While under treatment, there are certain exercise restrictions as well as a requirement to return to the shelter for further treatments until the dog is heartworm-free. An adoption counselor will be happy to explain the process of adopting and more about the parasite that causes heartworms. Due to the need to return for monthly treatment after taking a HW+ dog home, the adopter must live in one of the following counties to be approved for adoption: Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Henry, Trimble, and Shelby counties
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Hendrix (HW+ $25 Adoption Fee Main Campus), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
