When Tanner arrived at KHS, he was found to be heartworm positive and is now receiving the treatment he needs to be happy and healthy. Although Tanner is feeling under the weather, it doesn't stop him from being a sweet and loving boy. The staff say Tanner is very friendly and likes attention. At 35 pounds, Tanner is the perfect medium sized dog for any type of family. Tanner is neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. This dog has been diagnosed as heartworm positive (HW+) and is undergoing treatment. While under treatment, there are certain exercise restrictions as well as a requirement to return to the shelter for further treatments until the dog is heartworm-free. An adoption counselor will be happy to explain the process of adopting and more about the parasite that causes heartworms. Due to the need to return for monthly treatment after taking a HW+ dog home, the adopter must live in one of the following counties to be approved for adoption: Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Henry, Trimble, and Shelby counties.
